QRLumen is a free QR code generator built on one principle: a QR code you make should be yours — free, permanent, and not held hostage by the tool that made it.
Why we built it
Most "free" QR generators aren't. Many quietly route your code through their own servers, so it stops working the day you stop paying — a printed sign or business card that suddenly leads nowhere. Others bury the result in ads or upsells. QRLumen exists to be the honest default: type what you want to encode, style it, download a crisp file, done.
How it actually works
QRLumen makes two kinds of codes:
- Static codes (free). These are generated entirely in your browser — the content you type (a link, Wi-Fi password, contact card) is encoded into the image on your own device and never sent to us. Because the destination is baked directly into the code, it needs no server to keep working and never expires. Print it on a thousand flyers and it will still scan years from now.
- Dynamic codes (optional, paid). Some people need to change where a code points after it is printed, or count scans. Those codes redirect through a short link we host, so the destination stays editable and scans are tallied. That hosting is the one thing with an ongoing cost, so it is the one thing we charge for — a small Pro plan.
What we hold ourselves to
- Static codes are free to make — real vector SVG and high-resolution PNG, no watermark, no expiry.
- Your content stays on your device for static codes — it is encoded in your browser and never reaches our servers, so we cannot see what you put in a code.
- We are upfront about what costs money. Only the optional dynamic / trackable codes have a paid plan; the generator itself is free.
Honest limitations
A static code cannot be edited once it is printed — the destination is part of the image. If you might need to change it later, that is exactly what a dynamic code is for. And "QR Code" is a registered trademark of Denso Wave Incorporated; we generate standard QR codes but are not affiliated with or endorsed by Denso Wave.
Who is behind it
QRLumen is a small, independent project, built and run on Cloudflare's edge network — not a large company harvesting your scans, just a focused tool that tries to do one thing well. Questions, bugs, or ideas are genuinely welcome: email support@qrlumen.com, or use the 💬 button on any page.
